Terms & Conditions
Free to use. Not a legal speed reference.
Last updated 4 September 2026
By using livespeedtracker.com you agree to what follows. If you do not, simply close the page — there is no account to delete and nothing of yours is held anywhere.
Safety comes before every other term
Do not operate this site while driving. Set it up before you move, mount your device where it does not obstruct your view, and never read, tap or configure the display in motion. Where you are is your responsibility: local law may prohibit a mounted screen entirely, and it always outranks anything written here.
This is not a legal or evidential speed reference. Your vehicle’s own speedometer is the instrument you are legally required to obey — and it is deliberately calibrated to read high, as this guide explains. Do not use a reading from this site to justify your speed to an authority, to contest a citation, or to decide that you may safely exceed a posted limit.
What the service is
A static web page that reads your device’s Geolocation API and computes speed, distance and related figures in your browser. It is provided free, with no account and no subscription, and is paid for by advertising. It is offered for personal, informational use.
Accuracy and availability
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement.
GPS accuracy depends on your hardware, satellite geometry, weather and surroundings, none of which are within our control. Readings degrade in tunnels, urban canyons and under tree cover, and a fix may be wrong or absent entirely. Figures shown here — including distance, averages and acceleration times — are estimates and may be materially incorrect. We do not promise the site will be available, uninterrupted or error-free, and it may change or be withdrawn at any time without notice.
Not suitable for these uses
- Navigation, emergency response, aviation, marine or any safety-critical activity.
- Legal, insurance, employment or evidential purposes.
- Vehicle calibration, official timing or competitive record-keeping.
- Anything where an inaccurate reading could cause injury, loss or liability.
Your data and your responsibility
Trips and preferences are stored only in your own browser, as described in the privacy policy. Nothing is backed up and nothing can be recovered for you — clearing your browsing data, switching browsers or losing the device destroys it permanently. Export anything that matters to you as GPX, CSV or JSON.
You are responsible for your own conduct while using the site, for obeying speed limits and traffic law, and for any consequence of relying on a figure shown here.
Advertising
The site carries advertising served by Google. Those ads are chosen and delivered by Google, not by us, and we do not see them before they appear. We are not responsible for the content of any advertisement, for the goods or services it promotes, or for anything that happens on a site you reach by clicking one — that is between you and the advertiser, on the advertiser’s terms.
If an ad here is misleading, offensive or broken, tell us at info@livespeedtracker.com and we will report it. Do not click ads repeatedly, or encourage anyone else to, whether as a way of supporting the site or for any other reason. It is fraud against the advertiser and it would get this site removed from the programme.
Advertising never receives your location or your trip data, as the privacy policy sets out.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we accept no liability for any loss or damage — direct, indirect, incidental or consequential — arising from your use of, or inability to use, this site, including any loss arising from an inaccurate reading, a lost trip record or a period of unavailability. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, in which case the exclusions above apply only so far as that jurisdiction permits.
Acceptable use
Do not attempt to disrupt the site, misrepresent it as your own service, or present its output as an official or certified measurement. You may link to it freely.
Intellectual property
The site’s name, design, text and code remain ours. Anything you record — your trips, your exported files — is entirely yours; we never receive a copy and claim no rights over it.
Changes to these terms
These terms may be revised. The date at the top of this page marks the last substantive change, and continuing to use the site after a revision means you accept it.
